IBM unleashed the world’s first computer hard disk drive in 1956 named as RAMAC (Random Access Method of Accounting and Control). The drive holds 5MB of data at $10,000 a megabyte. The disk was as big as two refrigerators and uses 50 platters of size 24-inch each. It weighed more than a ton.
